The Poetry Lab is an online learning space where poets and writers craft their own learning journeys. Our mission is to level the playing field of poetry education by making high-quality instruction accessible and empowering. We help writers thrive outside traditional academic spaces through community, collaboration, and craft.
Art Sick Magazine is an online poetry publication from The Poetry Lab that makes space for finished poems that feel necessary. Work shaped by constraint, lived experience, joy, grief, and the urgency of the ineffable. We seek craft-driven, experimental writing across forms (including prose poetry, hybrid texts, and invented forms) and publish two issues per year, in June and January.
We accept previously unpublished work. Please do not include your name or identifying information anywhere in the manuscript. We accept up to five poems, a maximum of ten pages total. All poems must be contained in a single DOCX or PDF file. For experimental forms, a .JPEG or PDF may be uploaded.
One submission per writer during each reading period. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but if a poem is accepted elsewhere, please notify us immediately. Send a notification email to artsick@gmail.com or add a note in Submittable.
Issues are published in June and January. We do not accept submissions by email.
By submitting to ART SICK, you agree to grant First Electronic Rights if your work is accepted. Rights revert to the author upon publication. Accepted work will remain archived as part of the publication. No revisions may be made after submission. If your work is accepted, please wait twelve months before submitting again. If your work is declined, you are welcome to submit during the next reading period.
We aim to respond within eight to twelve weeks after each reading period closes. We are honored to be in community with you and thank you for trusting us with your work.
There is a $3 submission fee.
